Another very simple way to earn tons of favor and protection from the higher ups… mass healing and mass cure diseases for cities…
And plant fruit trees and other such ALL over the place instantly grown with magic… = a free food source that the poor can eat. (And curse magic that attacks anyone evil trying to exploit/harm them set up in a clever way, or a less evil way, just summon guard animals to protect it.)
Plus… repelling idiots like that… a simple spray bottle/squirt gun to shoot skunk stink at them… & ink that stains / tattoos (depending on severity)
Or as simple as casting teleport on them…
Right now… his mage skills feel like this…
