they should probably do an annual tradition of commemorating the pact of the hydra protecting the mermaids. so future generations of mermaids don’t think of it as a hoax or a made up story and go hurt the hydra or something. Maybe treat it like their guardian deity or something and do an annual festival where they offer some fish. that way future generations of both mermaid and hydra can live in peace together. Until some dingus in future decides to diddle with the pact and incur hydra’s wrath. The inevitable fate of all pacts ever made.
