Why is this so realistic? 
there are demons and magic in it but…. 
Executioners were heavily stigmatized and they usually lived on the outskirts of town or just outside town. Given that executions were what passed for entertainment back then it is surprising they were not local celebrities. I guess the whole “Thou Shalt Not Kill” thing with a heavily religious population probably resulted in the shunning.
Yeah, the executioners passed their jobs off to their sons, because they had to, and if they had a daughter, they would take on an apprentice, who would marry the daughter and take over the job.
