Bc other comments, here my 2 cents: Seoryang never knew Freedom in his old life, he didn’t even know life, having always been a chained tool as an assassin. He just had that obsession with Freedom, but only got a certain idea of Freedom, meaning not being bound or responsible or a tool for anything; an idealistic idea which he could not achieve being in the HDC.
That’s why he still thinks he needs to leave the cult. But of course, he’s gained new insights and attachments within that year, but that all conflicts with that idealistic idea and it’s hard to abandon that idea you had for decades. In a way he’s like a teenager with tons of knowledge but no real clue about what true Freedom for himself really means, what he really wants from life. But he’s about to get there 😉
