I thought there will be more explanation about his sleeping. About him sleeping in the nightmare world. Something like, he would sleep there (when he survived longer), but he would wake up in the dream still tired and be killed in the end. More likely though he did not survive even a single day there, even when he managed to survive longer, or if he did, he just did not go to sleep, or could not. At the same time his tiredness would be transmitted to his mind state in the nightmare world.
