If anyone has a means to deliver a message to the author of this manga, here’s a couple words:
Dude, you screwed up. You’ve made Akane unlikeable beyond redemption. She’s the villain of the series now. I don’t think anybody roots for her anymore. If it was intentional then you better have a nice plan to switch the focus on Himari so your series does not get axed. If it wasn’t, well, good luck recovering from that, because I can’t imagine any viable path of redemption for Akane: save for some absurd twist, Himari will always be perceived as more worthy of Saito than her. You can make Himari look bad somehow, but if that happens, I’m dropping this from my reading list and something tells me that I’m gonna be in a quite numerous company.
tl;dr: you dun goofed, I pity you (not).
End of message.
I wonder where this goes from now on.
A rational development would be that Saito, having spent some fun time with Himari and seeing the difference clearly, will call Akane out for the toxic bitch she is and “dump” her – not to the point of moving out and divorce, but becoming a stranger: sleeping in his room, reducing contacts with Akane to bare minimum necessary for keeping up the show for grandparents and going on with his life and dating Himari. Akane would throw a tantrum for sure, but that would result with Saito distancing himself from her even further. That would make Akane reflect on herself, come to terms with her fears and feelings and work on coming out of the bitch pit she dug herself in, then confessing properly to Saito and keep working hard to make this pile of lies true somehow.
But.
First, this would come at Himari’s expense, leaving unpleasant aftertaste.
Second, Akane has become so unlikeable, unsympathetic character, that most readers probably wouldn’t mind if she doujin’d herself and got gangbanged out of Saito’s life once and for all. It’s sad, really, because there was a nice steady progress in the early chapters, only to revert completely, even beyond the starting point, I feel.
Anyway, it’s gonna be fun to see the author scramble to save the unsaveable.
