Honestly, given what we saw on day one of the 8th division I’m assuming the poor kid was bullied to the point of just hating humans in general (Books and animals may have been his only companions as well) and the book had nothing to do with his change in attitude. I wouldn’t want to help the people who constantly bullied me either.
