The saintess is the only person capable of divine descent and only the goddess (sole remainer of the gods) can inhabit her.
The goddess is toying with the world and using the demon lord as a scapegoat every few hundred years causing the demons (who live centuries or more) to resent her.
So by killing the saintess, the goddess cannot descend into the lower world (but it’s more complicated than that).
Ahhhh yees…Despair has cometh….hopefully Author can wait at least 2 chapters or until the village and villagers has been devastated enough before MC’s reinforcement arrived
