In the WN, he kept the fake murder of the saintess from the group (that he didn’t interact with, he just skedaddled after her crucifiction to find/ help her) and only told them when they were in another country. Same thing, the mage’s dad (the cardinal) is not aware of the saintess’s rescue (because he’s likely to leak the info).
