Island of Swords and Devils

This suffers from the same problem you see in a lot of manhuas. The pacing does not respect your time. There are panels where nothing happens.

The story is good though unlike a lot of the others, but what publishers of this stuff aren’t understanding is when you have 50 panels and progress 2 things and those 2 things are… here’s an example.

Thing Chapter 58, the two things that happens are:

1. Several chapters ago a person is informed by the antagonist that everyone will be killed. Then more recently but still several chapters ago that person considers the morality of it. Then several chapter ago that person happens to tell the MC’s sister about it. Now several chapters later in chapter 58 the MC’s sister wakes up and confirms what we already knew from the antagonist.
2. Last few chapters the mc deviates from the direct path to the antagonist to be clever. The pay off was chapter 57 where he joins a merchant group under false pretenses. Then chapter they approach the castle and he gets exposed as a spy seemingly wasting the build up from the last several chapters.

In short chapter 58 is and I am not summarizing: Sister confirms what we already knew and MC went from camping outside the antagonist city to at the gate of the city.

That’s the pacing.

So if you do intend to read this I’d say its a got good art, a good story but wait for it to hit chapter 80+ By then the quality vs waste of time balance of these kinds of manhua’s catch up and you can move on..

From what I read, I would say this is a solid series. The only thing I didn’t like about this was the female character who showed up and was fighting the main character, the author was trying so hard to make a connection between them, I can see him making her the FL, but I like a revenge story more with no romance. rate: 3/5
