They’re both wrong, but it’s all completely understandable. This is the essential feeling of tragedy, even if it’s not the classic structure.
In the classic structure, for example, Paul would be working for a corrupt group, and Rudy would be wiping out the slavers that Paul didn’t know he was working for, and Rudy would see Norn right after he realised he had mortally wounded Paul. Frankly, I prefer the non-classic story above, but the classical form hits harder.
