He likely left it on purpose, since it sucks up all residue vis.
Maybe he just left it before to do it passively and forgot about that one, of course. It is possible, but it is possible that he needed to leave it to suck up the rest of vis and wanted to leave himself as soon as possible, so it could’ve been intentional.
He left the same thing (a ball from a bearing, not a full ball bearing, according to novel readers) at the motel, since there was no residue vis of his left there.
First I assumed the worldbuilding to be awful, but it’s actually pretty awesome, native american werewolf, and a nest of werewolves in the rural midwest.
