Main hero almost became a villain 
This bit always breaks the continuity of the story for me. Such a marginal E rank hunter would have made a decent amount of money doing that support job, with danger pay and such. While maybe not a marginally lucrative as hunting as an E rank (although it is implied that he got nothing but injuries for many hunts and maybe a Hunters’ Association bonus), it is still dangerous and hard work, which is usually decently well paid.
What… he just thoughy he’d wander in and do a bit of thieving… Add common thief to his CV ? Very low level and scummy. As for the boss, it’s not dead and there’s no one watching over it with the power to do something if it doesn’t fancy being killed off ? Come on… get back in the room…

I was halfway expecting him to bring out his shadows to hurry up the mining, but obviously people would be suspicious how he got more done on his own during a lunch break than the whole team did all morning (or however long they were in there).
