A brief description of the manhwa SOLO LEVELING:
Ten years ago, the gates of our world opened with a world of monsters. After that, some mortals were given the gift of destroying monsters inside the gate. Such mortals were called hunters. However, not all hunters are strong enough. Sung Jin-Woo is a level E hunter.
The guy has to risk his life in the dark dungeons, performing the most unpromising tasks. The fact is that the hunter does not have the necessary qualities to increase, so he has to perform rough work. Sung Jin-Woo went down into the dungeons again and again, fighting with the lowest monsters until one day he wanders into the dungeon level D.
Staying in the most difficult dungeon gave the guy an amazing ability “System”, which contains a lot of secrets about raising the level. In order to gain “career growth”, the hunter will have to train regularly, based on the list of tasks. Perhaps such a turn of events will lead the newcomer to the rank of S, the highest title of hunter.
Solo Leveling is so polarizing. If you are looking for a story that’s trying to say something or that might even change your perspective on the world, this is not the story for you. Go check out the Horizon instead. But, if you are looking for a super well executed power fantasy/progression manhwa that can entertain you for 180 chapters (even during your 10th reread), then this is for you. I think it is safe to say this is a masterpiece for that specific genre. The ideas present in Solo Leveling are not unique. What is unique is how well the elements are executed. Especially considering the time when this manhwa first started releasing. I should also note that the quality continues to improve throughout the run (but if you don’t enjoy it by chapter ~10, these improvements will not save the story for you). Yes, there are similar (and maybe even better) stories coming out now, but just remember that Solo Leveling paved the way for them.
Five years have passed, and now I’ve come back again to where it all started. This story will always be special to me cuz it served as my escape during the pandemic year. And looking back now, it reminds me of how far I’ve come and how much those difficult times shaped who I am today.

No matter what anyone says SL has a special place in my heart. I’ve read it 12 or 13 times but I still keep coming back.

One word describes this: peak. This is like my 8th reread and I can still be extremely entertained by it

Frankly, I will never understand why people start hating sth when it gets widely popular, I’ve seen this shit happening several times now.
I’m re-reading this manhwa rn because it IS a masterpiece, especially for the art, but it’s also an absolutely satisfying storyline for many people, it just scratches a certain itch. And it got an amazing anime adaption.
Yeah, there are always better stories out there, but it’s ridiculous that you get rude comments if you refer to sl somewhere now – that’s never been the case before. Like, it’s uncool to show your appreciation now, though it was totally normal to praise this manhwa to high heavens before 2025.
Those trend haters really ought to chill down a notch bc this is still a masterpiece.
