Summary

A brief description of the manga Strategic Lovers:

Kouta, a high school boy whose father is the chairman of the Higashiyama Group, a large corporation involved in the development of railroads, department stores, and resort facilities, plays the leading role in a romantic survival game.

As the son of his father’s 23rd mistress, Kota doesn’t really feel like the son of the chairman. Despite this, he’s suddenly chosen as the next chairman of the Higashiyama Group and is assigned a girl to be his mistress.

I found this confusing and unpleasant, and I didn’t finish it, although I might give it another chance. The translation isn’t great, but I think the original writing is the real problem. It’s trying to be a soap opera, where MC uses his chess skills to stay ahead of the intrigues of a gaggle of scheming hotties. But he’s not clever, and the plot is mostly irrational declarations. The girls don’t seem to have any personality except “scheming slut”, and MC is supposed to be likeable because he was bullied, but it doesn’t work, he just seems angry and self-absorbed. It’s also never clear what’s happened except in the broadest strokes. For now I’m saying pass, but there is ample TnA, if that’s all you wanted.

Summary: Bastard son of a billionaire is the only male descendant and a chess prodigy, so he’ declared the heir. Obviously, he must join a reality show to choose five mistresses from among five girls (and a mystery girl to be named later) in order to be president. Only mistresses can make a company great!

If i had a coin each time i read a morally questionable ecchi harem manga with an MC named Kouta i’d have two coins…..Which isn’t a lot but it’s odd that it happened twice.

“If Andrew Tate made a manga,” no truer words have been said to describe this dumpster fire. The purpose of harems are to make a reader choose a ship and sink with the ship. Instead, in this manga, the characters make me want to burn the whole port down so no ship will or should ever sail. The plot and characters are equally appalling.
The plot is so scattered, disordered, and chaotic that it’s hard to follow or connect any sort of reasoning to create a logical read. Besides for the harem and diluted doujin scenes, there’s not any memorability or impression in the manga. Oh, I can’t forget about the constant chess references that half of the time don’t make sense because it’s not applicable.
The characters are made so weird as they barely get any background, but if they do it’s hard to remember solely because THERE ARE FIVE OF THEM. A five person harem? It’s already hard enough to follow five separate characters, but to introduce them at the same time while giving them a panel of screen time to elaborate is pushing it. Realistically, there’s only two fml while the rest are going to get banished to the shadow realm.
The only saving grace of this manga is the artwork and even then it gets out of hand with the unnecessary ecchi scenes. I’m baffled on how this gets serialized and even translated as every event feels like a fever dream. Honestly, it’s not that bad of a read, but definitely not worth investing over.
