This is one of my least favorite Korean tropes.
Regardless of the setting, they spend more time bargaining over money, being smug about taking advantage of people for money and one-upping the perceived competition for…again, money. More time doing that than anything like character building, combat or something other than money and stuff.
I have heard it explained why the Koreans have an obsession with money being part of their power fantasies. And I know Koreans are the intended audience.
But it still bores the teats off me.

Force feeding essence is not a good thing. It’s fucking expensive to remove and if it’s not an essence that blends well with someone….. You’ve damned them to death or poverty. Imagine being an Water bender but someone fed you an fire benders essence so both abilities cancel each other out. The only thing you can do is let off literal steam. What? You gonna train as an hot airbender now? 😂

Interesting it seems since Essence affects the body and spirit it overwrites magic and mages cant use them, thus they want to learn as much as possible to get some of that sweet sweet power.
