Summary
A brief description of the manhwa Survive as a Barbarian in the Game:
[By the studio that brought you <Regressor Instruction Manual>!]
After nine years of playing the game “Dungeon and Stone,” which no one had ever been able to finish before, the protagonist, Lee Hansoo, finally reached the boss stage. However, just as he entered the boss area, he noticed a notification informing him that he had finished the tutorial and that he had taken control of the playable character Bjorn Jandel’s body.
After the planet in the “Dungeon and Stone” universe was destroyed, just one city was left standing. Every month a new labyrinth would appear, giving adventurers the chance to navigate it and earn rewards.
A barbarian who does not fight will not be able to survive in this society because barbarians are viewed as useless in everything but combat. The only fate that awaits if one is unable to pay the exorbitant taxes sought by the city is a reduction in status to a “lower-class citizen.” You will be labeled a “evil spirit”
and put to death if it is discovered that you are actually controlling the person you are portraying. Lee Hansoo must enter the labyrinth and battle while putting his life in danger if he wants to live. He tries to survive in this game using the abilities he has developed over the course of nine years of playtime…

its been at least 2 months does anyone know when a new chapter is out or not
Ok, so, honest review as to chap 35.
It’s imo way overrated. It is ok but not even remotely worth 4.9, e.v.e.r.
The MC is a flat character with no psychological depth and no particular virtue whatsoever.
He often acts unnecessarily harshly with his allies, justifying it to himself with some generic bs about it being a harsh world.
He’s a dense guy with the emotional intelligence of an amoeba, typical stereotype who despite being surrounded by many super sexy girls crazy for him he doesn’t show any interest, which is clearly unrealistic considering that up until 2 months ago he was an unattractive lonely sick nerd with no life but games, most certainly still virgin, most certainly jerking off to pics of elves in his masturbation sock, and now suddenly he’s again 20, super sexy, in a body which produces more testosterone per day than his previous body did in his whole life, so, no way he would just stay still but of course he does because this is NOT as original and innovative of a story as the many fans here want you to believe.
And I can’t understand why nobody here finds it weird how this dude who was a weakling shy nerd until not long ago is now a dominant badass person.
People don’t change their personality just like that. It’s ridiculous and takes away lot of credibility to the story.
Also, all the talk of how amazing it is that there is no status window, how original and innovative, it’s BULLSH!T, there is a very heavily game-based system with stats, skills, levelup and notifications.
I can’t find one single thing in this story which is truly original.
Imo it’s just another average “game Isekai”, with a nice art, a passable MC, an ok story, and a game system which is more balanced (less “solo leveling” crazy unrealistic op) than most, but that’s it.
I am reading just because it’s not bad and I’ve nothing to do and not much better stuff left.
But I don’t see any merit here to deserve more than 4 rating, and mine is 3.5.
I actually agree to an extent. However it falls off at one point where he forms his own party with a dwarf and incompetent mage and a couple other characters. But it’s still a great read imo.
8.7/10, actually. I know most of the reviews are overwhelmingly positive, and there is a reason for that. Its amazing. One of the best transported into game manhwas I’ve ever read, which is saying something for the perhaps 7-10 or so I’ve read beforehand.
Ranking system: (is it portnoy inspired? it annoys me to note this down cuz i think its pretty original but i dont want people bugging me about it)
11: My favorite manga/manhwa of all time, forever.
10: Stop. Read. Now.
9: An outstanding performance in every single category, and more.
8: A work of art that perhaps is not fully fleshed out, but pretty close.
7: Very good, and definitely give it a read when possible.
6: Fun, engaging, but nothing special.
5: Decent, but somewhat boring. I liked it, but you might not.
4: Questionable, but I won’t tell you not to read it.
3: I definitely wouldn’t recommend you read this, but it could be worse.
2: It couldn’t be worse.
1: At this point, why bother?
0: Avoid at all possible costs. Read at your own risk.
Absolutely amazing. I went into this with low expectations and came out a complete fanboy.
I usually hate “I got isekaied into a video game” manga/manhwas because most of the time authors never played a video game in their lives. MC usually always get some OP cheat ability/unique class/unique scenario that makes the MC insanely powerful but would make the game be complete shit if it actually existed IRL, because you know most games try to have something called “balance”.
However this manhwa, the video game is well thought out and has mechanics that feel like it would work in a real game. MC gets isekaied into a realistic version of the game and has to use all his basically pro/years worth of knowledge of the game to survive.
Great story, the game and setting reminds me of Tales of Maj’Eyal. There’s a class in there that can use the abilities of monsters akin to the essence system in this. Very fun.
Looking forward to reading more and seeing how Bjorn develops.
This is peak… until the time skip. It is hard to pull off a huge dynamics shift mid-novel, and this one doesn’t pull it off well. This is no Nano Machine or Warlock of the Magus World in that regard. The supporting cast is just too integral imo to pull off what this novel tries to pull off.
Good news is, there are still plenty of amazing chapters left until the Manhwa reaches that point.
you must read this on Y0NDER (as of now, 378 chapters are translated). Expect god-tier writing, a bewitching plot, consistent power levels and reasonings, plenty of combat tactics, intelligent charachters, no simping or too much pity on enemies.
this novel is top tier. it really deserves the 4.9 rating. Trust me.
when is the spin off “survive as a furry in the game” coming?????
This is top tier shit! Was initially somewhat unsure if I will like it due to the game world setting, but it worked out really well. Highly recommended.
I need someone to send me more recommendations like this and Kalli because I am loving these type of manhwa so much
4.9/5 with 200 ratings, and I’m the 200th. 😀
I like this one, it’s goin’ places. Stoked to see more!
I really like that the stats are obscured from the player… he has to rely on his foreknowledge of the game to get any idea of where he is and how he’s doing. Makes it feel like he really is in another world.
It suffers a little from typical isekai plot stuff and even causes one of its more unique characters to conform with the rest, but I strongly recommend giving this one a read nonetheless. The main character’s conflicts are often uphill battles which he may or may not overcome… thus the power fantasy is well-earned!
4.9 ratings with 189 votes wow thats the highest rating i’ve seen with this many votes
It’s a very good manga that i even read the mtl novel because of this. If you wanna read the novel too, and if you have anxiety problems, then i advice you not to simp too much on ‘Her’. Just enjoy the dungeon crawling and politics. Don’t be like me…
