I get it. I didn’t get to know my great grandfather personally, but I know a lot about him. He served on theee aircraft carriers as a VT mechanic, meaning he’d work on torpedos and the planes that dropped them. He’d become friends with the pilots too most likely. He served on the USS Hornet, Kadashan Bay, and Enterprise. He served on the Hornet during the Battle of Midway. If you don’t know, the entire Squadron of torpedo fighters (VT-8) were taken out, all excluding a single one. My grandfather, John Grayson Farnham, would’ve known and most likely have been friendly with the pilots too. Because of things like that, my mom told me that he didn’t like talking about the war. WWII I mean. So I understand not wanting to share dark war stories.
