Not sure how it got 4.3 Stars. I got to around chapter 10 where it bored me to death.
I read to chapter 47 before dropping it. This manga doesn’t have any suspenseful moments and is a snooze fest. It’s pretty much an undramatic, uninteresting slice-of-life.
The fantasy world and MC husband’s faction is so overpowered, that you don’t feel any thrill or excitement even though it’s a fantasy manga.
In the first dozen or more chapters, the story was still interesting because of the cultural cognitive dissonance, the occasional ecchi scenes, and new fantasy tribes to meet.
But the story really goes nowhere and it is terribly episodic.
They should have worked in more romance and adventure, but it’s been “happy family day trip to get mildly shocked at some fantastical element” nearly every chapter.
Also, they do keep one-sidedly emphasizing how open-minded, spiritual, worldly, and naturalistic the husband’s faction is, while MC’s faction are greedy, vulgar, backward, and magically tainted.
TLDR; weak plot, goes nowhere.
While escapism can be enjoyable, this particular instance seems excessive. It prioritizes fantasy over realism to the point of becoming an unrealistic experience, more akin to idle daydreaming than striving towards a goal. Many of the events depicted in such stories are unlikely to be experienced in real life.
Didn’t finish the second chapter. MC annoyed me beyond toleration. Her enemy regarding her as something like a wild mare to tame didn’t pique my interest. There’s never any real sense of danger, even though she’s clearly been enslaved. Nothing about the premise or the characters struck me as interesting or credible.
I’m not a fan of “taming of the shrew noble” stories generally, but if one were to keep my interest, it would have to start with sympathy or concern for the noble in question.
The story is kinda toothless? The core premise is that the female MC is abducted as a POW. She thinks she will be tortured and raped, but actually her abductor intends to make her his cherished bride.
The clash of cultures embodied by the female MC and male abductor is the main source of conflict in the story. But, the author completely neuters the MC’s home culture! So every chapter boils down to:
FMC: “Things are different here.”
abductor: “Things are better here.”
FMC: “You are right. I was wrong and stupid.”
The personalities are muddy too. For example, the female MC is a knight. She devoted her life to the sword in not!medieval-europe. And yet, we basically never see her practice or use the sword, even when given free reign by her captors.
The female MC and her supposed fiance never interact as individuals. He never learns from her, and they don’t have quiet moments. It makes it hard to buy that their growing ‘romance’ is anything more than author mandated Stockholm syndrome.
Final Rating:
“author’s half-baked fetish” / 10
I…
I need to rant about this manga. The thought that just keep repeating in my head for 3 days now since I finished reading it, it just keep appearing just through whole day.
SPOILER WARNING. Read manga to better get mine point.
||So this goes like normal romance between enemies turn lovers. Nothing would be wrong… If … If not for one fact that just make my stomach turn. I will just Highlight that I like this manga and give it as of right now 8/10.||
||But, this one thing is … This whole romance is basically romantic Stockholm syndrome to some extend. And the thing that basically triggered this in me to constantly think about it, is that Heroine is willing to sacrifice wellbeing of people of her country, which suffer from food shortage, drought and other things for her own happiness. This fact goes even worse when we learn that a person who she respect greatly, that was presumably dead, was in fact alive and just decided to stay at Barbarian clans to live her happy life. Which just made Heroine go further that road… WHICH GOES EVEN WORSE, when we learn that the respected person is SIBLING of the King of the Country Heroine is part of, resulting in King now fighting Barbarians not for prosperity for his country, but out of pure hatred, resulting in further conflict! And the same goes for family of main Heroine! There are also other friends of Main Heroine who also decided to settle with barbarians after they were kidnapped years ago, making Heroine think they were all dead.||
||Oh but maybe she could escape if she is so strong? Well, tough luck because area where Barbarians live, despite it bountiful resources, it’s surrounded by dangerous monsters, so you are either choosing to try to escape with high chance of dying from monster or accept being groomed into being in love with your captors. Which just add more fuckery to this whole thing.||
||Which just make this feeling of sore point WORSE and just make me think about this constatly! I know it’s comedy, romance etc… But this thing just make me feel such …. UGH! Undescribeable feeling that constantly fills my mind!||
As I said, Manga is 8/10 but GOD this point of mine just make me have love/hate relationship with this manga.
The One shot of this manga is even worse.
1/5
Elf just called Marsyas, potentially the Clergy of the Eastern nation, children playing with matches and fire.
