So I could only get as far as chapter 1.2. Basically he gets taken on as an aprentice, they fire him and end up selling his house to cover their costs….wut????

It’s mid. The characters constantly make dumb decisions and the author basically never gets the female mc to do anything in actual combat because he knows that she will absolutely outshine the male mc.

This is a pretty good story, and better as it goes on. The MCs have OP skills but with limits and some mystery, they face credible danger, there is already romance I can root for, moderate fanservice. There’s a lot of griping about translation in the comments, but it’s not that rough. I never have trouble following the story.

There are several conflicts set up for future issues that might take this from good to great, it the author is brave. We’ll see, though. This ought to be low four stars, three is too low. I think this suffers from troll rating.
