get a spear, all other weapons will take thousands of hours to master, hours you dont have

I’d go for the spear. You got range, likely get in the first hit, and also use it somewhat like a staff. Makes a good walking stick (less fatigue over time). And if others have one as well, you can make a spear thicket that is hard to beat. And good for those times when you need to “touch something with a 10′ pole.” I’m not particularly strong and piercing seems more effective than cleaving for an average build. Plus, easier to learn, historically, than a sword or bow (neither of which I am proficient with).
Dont pick the generic sword or spear come on get the big ass axe
Its a tutorial so is the real world the real challenge
Be a shield hero. Double tower shields. 
He’s gonna go the tried and true sword/shield combo. Not the best attack, but better starting defense.

Hammer, choose the hammer! It’s heavy, it doesn’t require much skill, and it can do a heck of a lot of damage through blunt force trauma. Probably more damage than any other weapon unless one of the sword types has a razor edge. It will also improve your strength stat! Get the other weapons later unless you have already mastered one of them.

me personally i would choose the spear mid-ranged attacks are a major bonus

Classic Korean Tower Manhwa
Spears and Bows are the obvious. You don’t have to get up close. Even in close quarters you can keep your distance. But it’s a manwa so you pick the weapon that gives you the most aura farming. Sword or dagger because nothing gives you more aura farming points than blocking with a dagger.
