What a stupid plot point. You already have hundreds of gold coins, and you yourself admitted that you could buy a decent castle for 1000 g. Surely, you could afford to buy or found a better village with what’s in your pocket. There is no need to pay mercenaries and fund a subjugation of a destroyed village, who’s reconstruction and resettlement might take forever, for the possibility of getting a measly 10g in taxes. Get you knighthood, fund a village closer to Zarpen’s castle…Why chase flies?
