I understand it would have been difficult, but it was common in our worlds history to take nobles hostage to either get money or use their life to get terms of surrender. Depending on the status of the noble. I’m sure a toady like that wouldn’t get you much in terms of bargaining power so it’s probably better that they just let him go.

now it feels like he will just let most of enemy nobles live as its not his battle, only finishing those who attack him so that plot can be fueled, -_-

I am glad that MC is sending messages. Though i would have burned a few of the corpses to ash, then smeared those ashes on the ambassador before he ran away.
