Berserk of Gluttony

The first problem is the lack of direction you can really take a novel like this. His stats were supposed to be all 1s and his level was at 1. He killed an injured guy as his duty and gained his stats. However, unlike most manga he gained literally everything that guy had, his stats and abilities. In other words, he’s insanely op and only needs to keep killing.

Of course, the mc getting op with no downside wouldn’t be much of a story, would it? So, the author introduces a “sword of Damocles.” Basically, the mc has no choice but to regularly hunt in order to calm down his hunger for souls. The souls are miserable and in agony forever, sucked into his body. But he has to keep doing it to calm down his hunger. If he doesn’t he will go berserk and kill everyone around him.

Then the author realized how op he was getting and the mc had to regularly reset/lower his stats constantly. By chapter 15 he still manages to become one of the flat out strongest humans in the world with arguably one of the greatest weapons too. So… what’s next? Surely he has the power to do whatever he wants?

No.

The author then introduces power level “E” which is a higher level of power than a human can handle. However, unless you are at “E” rank, you can’t harm an “E” in the slightest. So the mc forcefully somehow breaks through during a fight into E rank. And what happens? After he wins his battle against that E ranker, everyone and their grandma gets “E” rank. Random castle guards are at E rank. The juvenile villain at the beginning of the story is E rank. I remember thinking a random thug who attacked him was at E rank. These are supposed to be legendary heroes at the pinnacle of the world which mankind can’t match, and yet it’s literally everyone now that the mc is E rank.

Oddly it morphs into some scifi story at ch19 and 20 with mecha and futuristic rooms. It goes back to being fantasy mecha hybrid, then it goes back to scifi again. I’m not saying you can’t mix them up, but this got really weird.

The mc is a weird beta bitch at times, like when he rescued the village that abandoned him as a child. Like are you serious? The mc’s father fought to the death to protect the village, then you bully and abandon his child? They were evil just for the sake of being evil and making the mc’s backstory seem more tragic then it needed to be. Oh, and also to make the mc have a “holier than thou” I’m so kindhearted attitude.

There was some light ecchi moments once in a while, but it wasn’t every chapter like I expected.

Anyway, tldr;
-Sword of damocles limits the mc’s power intake
-Power level inflation (everything is over 9000 as soon as the mc gets 9001 power)
-mediocre backstory
-MC can be a beta and MASSIVE SIMP every now and then
-villains more one-dimensional than wuxia villains
-skill inflation, mc should have countless skills but I don’t think I’ve seen him use more than 3/4?
