Summary

A mysterious and potentially hazardous ore is to be mined on an oceanic island by a group of inmates. Credo, a soldier, is assigned the duty of guarding the island at some point.

Inmates are sent to a remote island with the sole purpose of extracting its ore. However, the peculiar nature of the mineral causes a profound metamorphosis in the inmates.

Your skin and bones will start to turn a blueish color the more you touch the odd ore, and eventually, you’ll transform into ore.

After that, the individuals responsible for sending the inmates established a research facility and used them as subjects for studies.

Good but short. It’s less about the story than the message but the world is fleshed out and the art is fantastic.

The author’s intentions, imo

I think the author wanted to make a statement on the morality of technological advancement. When you think of nuclear power, you think of Hiroshima, Chernobyl, not a nuclear reactor powering your home. The author wanted to pose the question: is technological innovation worth the casualties incurred with its development? They’re a bit blunt in that indigo ore directly necessitates human lives, but it’s still well communicated.

At first glance, the Ishida Sui-esque art drew me in. Then I got into the story; while it was not very deep nor fully fleshed out, if said in two words, my impression would be “tastefully heartbreaking”.
…….also, it has been awhile since I last read something so classically Japanese in the midst of recent isekai popularity.
