Fog Land

This is pretty good as manhwas go. The premise is a standard manhwa setup, but an original version of it. The characters and monsters are creative, the power scaling is not a distraction, the swooshy punching isn’t too confusing. There’s a big mystery at the center of the story that holds promise and hasn’t been spoiled after 49 chapters. I did find this a grindy read, but I’m not a fan of punchy battles or ‘why can’t we all just get along’ soliloquies. It has the tropes and shortcomings you expect from manhwas, but it is better than average. The ice blue and orange color scheme (and later magenta and chartreuse) fits surprisingly well with an effectively mysterious atmosphere, and also the story seems to be working toward a slow realization that things you took for granted are not what they seem. That last one may not pan out, though, I’m not sure how smart the author is. I recommend, but it’s a distinctive flavor, so be ready.

Summary: High School teacher with family secrets is recruited to teach elementary science to inmates with secrets at the World Government’s maximum security secret prison colony, built around a meteor crater of secrets that may as well be a Stephen King cemetary. During a riot he is dragged into the prisoners’ living area, and it soon becomes clear nobody is coming for him. Time to uncover some secrets
