I’M The Demon Queen, But For Some Reason The Hero Is Doting On Me

To some people it’s cute, to me it’s a hero who was lovestricken at first sight after defeating the demon lord who is actually a cute, weak, and small girl. Then he kidnaps her, keeps her locked up in his house while buying sweets and clothes for her. I’m more than a little creeped out by some of the scenes.

Shortness of chapters aside, unfortunately in less than a week it’ll have been 2 full years since this series has been updated. We now leave off at having a weird love rival (not that the current hero has much of a chance) who is the 2nd hero the king appointed after mc deserted.

The story itself is a bit lacking in character depth. Hero had no personality until demon queen became it. The demon queen’s personality is just slightly adverse to the hero’s rather blatant sexual harassment of a girl he’s only just met yet already committed treason to keep her locked up inside his house.

Other characters kind of fall into basic tropes, the hero’s party has the delusional loyal tank, and all the girls are self-centered thinking that the hero should’ve fallen for them instead, and the new hero is now some chuunibyou cool rival character who also fell for the demon lord at first sight.

We’ve yet to have any backstory nor world building aside from just an exposition. The story is mostly focused on their (very one-sided) “lovey-dovey couple” and is supposed to be carried by its (very questionable) “wholesomeness”. If you’re into that sort of thing, you can spend 10 minutes binge reading this, but it’s probably the most shallow story you’ll read. I don’t have much hope that in the future we’ll get too much depth even if by a miracle the story gets updated again.

If you were looking forward to a story with a similar type of plot but are disappointed by this, then I would recommend “I was summoned by the demon lord, but I can’t understand her language”. It’s wholesomeness is way more reasonable with its pacing a a hundred times less creepy. In general the Comedy and character depth is way better, and they actually put a lot of thought into making their plot+backstory complex while still retaining those simple heartwarming moments. Last of all it actually has an ending, which is a rare sight to see here.
