Finally this fucking manga is updating again
One word came to mind when I reading this.. “Cringe” 😬 😬😬
Good for passing time, not for mainstay
I saw the Anime first, and when the King pulled his sword and threatened to end Yuya’s life with *name of sword here*, I heard “The Rented Sword Dyslexia”…and sprayed cola out my nose, and fell off my chair laughing, scattering my precious munchies all over the floor…Yeah, my sister opened the door, saw me rolling around clutching my face laughing like a hyena…And took a picture.
That rotten cow.
This is an uncomplicated Adolescent Power Fantasy, and that is the framework for understanding the negative comments below. The characters are pretty one-dimensional, MC is immediately OP and getting stronger, nothing is really a challenge. It’s a silly piece of fluff, and if you can accept that, it has merit. There’s a little humor, light fanservice, romcom teasing from a lot of women, and lots and lots of smacking around helpless bad guys (and then asking the girly ones to be a new friend). If you like meathead action movies, this will also entertain you.
Summary: MC is short, fat, ugly and abused until the end of chapter one, he inherits looks and wealth and power from his grandfather and literally all the girls love him.
Didn’t make it all the way through. Slop from start to (where I ended). The main character never has any struggle in the slightest, has insane aptitude and natural talent for every known ability or skill, is magically charming to everyone around him, and lucked his way into everything that happens in this slopfest. I cannot disparage this kind of storytelling enough.
The art is alright, and the character designs are fine too, but being an unbelievably rushed power fantasy destroys everything else that this manga has going for it. Every issue is solved within the chapter. Everyone who likes him is a pure-hearted angel who is wholly dependent on his saving them, and everyone who dislikes him is a criminal or otherwise a one dimensionally horrid person. Not a single interesting character in this whole manga because they literally don’t have personalities. No time is spent building relationships, or personality, or stakes for any characters.
Now, I didn’t finish reading the bit about the headhunter girl, but I imagine it goes: she tries to kill princess girl, gets stopped by mc, starts crying, and gives up her malicious ways in favour of a cleaner life. Then, she will fk off.
I’m sorry that this reads as a vent, but that’s really what it is. This concept had some good potential that was kneecapped by the cardboard cutout characters, zero stakes plot, and constant pandering to the main character. Not even the systems that support the mc’s ludicrously fortunate adventures aren’t interesting.
1/5 for being slop.
It’s still not fully caught up to the anime
oh i remember watching the anime a while back, but how tf has it still not caught up yet lol
It’s still not fully caught up to the anime…
this is something i’d read again and again
MC doesn’t overcome. He doesn’t judge, he doesn’t work through any problem, he doesn’t appear to really engage in any kind of growth behavior. He doesn’t even fully respect the privilege his cheat gives him enough to keep it top secret. He’s the pinnacle of fence sitting spiritually weak main character syndrome you typically find in so many manga/manwa of this type. He’s a Marty Stu.
There are distinctly positive notes to the development of this story. Truly, if any of the threads began by the author were legitimately explored further we might’ve seen a huge boost in the character development of each individual. They are not important, though. The depth isn’t there, and the nuance in each person is drowned out by their outward worship or hatred for MC. Does the princess have any political motivations for wanting to have MC’s babies right on the spot? Nah, she’s just the petulant child of a weak father. Does the special school he’s going to or the royal court for that matter introduce MC to any complexities in the plot that would require more than constant dick riding? As you’ll discover, no.
I want to root for him. Maybe the novel has explored these characters’ lives better than the manga, but as for what we’ve got here I just can’t say I’d read this if I was interested in some kind of complex hero’s journey type of manga. In essence, the journey of MC was over and done with the moment he entered his wardrobe and came out the other side, everything was done for him from there and all people loved him without question.
If you’re interested in that kind of ride, I recommend this manga to you. There are plenty of fun moments in what little we have now that somewhat carry over to the anime adaptation. As for me though, I’d really like to take part in seeing the hero’s ascension. I’d really like to see how, despite having gained everything he lacked in a night, the main character still experiences growing paints as he rises to fit the vast space he just inherited. His family life, the complex romantic drama that could unfold (if you can even name all the women that are in his harem now), the ground’s really fertile for this kind of story.
I don’t mind MC being OP. I really object to him behaving like a naïve toddler that never personally grows despite having everything he could ever wish for hand delivered to him on a silver platter. That kind of oversight to me is really hard to fix after you’ve gone this far in the story because you’d have to re-work the entire structure of events to accommodate the author’s short-sightedness in the beginning.
The visuals are great. I really enjoy the art style they went for and it fits pretty well with the overarching theme of the story. I think there’s actually really nice attention to detail for the character designs as well, which stand out compared to similarly designed manga/anime. Like another user said, somehow the movements are better in the manga than the anime, despite no moving parts.
I give it a 3/5.
The manga somehow has better animation quality than the anime
It’s an ok story albeit (ab)using all possible (stereo)typical tropes.
I stopped watching most anime a few years ago as about 99% has become disappointing crap thrown together to make a quick buck rather than an art form to tell a vivid story Though I guess it’s the same for manga too with how much re-recycled and re-reduplicated crap gets put out (ie. the hundreds of variations of RE:Hero alchemist blacksmith saint gardener chef that was kicked out of the hero party because he was too weak/strong and raised a fenrir dragon slime wombat in a slow life in the country). Just way too many re-re’s
