I think the author missed an opportunity here. The scene where they’re setting off? IIRC, the whole point of getting Iris was for fast transport. Well THIS is a situation requiring fast transport, otherwise they’ll be walking for a week or more.
It would have been awesome if Mattias had Iris transform into her black dragon form and they all hopped on. Iris could circle the city while they waved down at the students and then have Iris shoot off at 80% the speed of sound. Or better yet, matt could have made a 3-person riding saddle for iris to wear; and if it was shielded, they could have cracked a sonic boom over the city >:D
