So if there were only four elements they were testing for (water, fire, earth, air), is he colorless because he was using a fifth element lightning/thunder they were NOT testing? Or was that a subfield of wind/fire/water and he just trained a lot to get just that?

holy cow it’s not a betrayal story, color me surprised!
I also agree that him reaching the top without the talents and blessings is far more impressive

Gotta agree with Gimkid. Unless he was riding their coattails the entire time and soaking up the credit, he would have had to work extra hard to even keep up with them. Despite having no actual talent he can be considered the most powerful tallentless person. My guess is that after he reincarnates that talent is going to do a 180 and be boosted in all regards, and with all his experience and knowledge it would cause him to be even more powerful than the other sages.
One of the things that I do like so far is that we see no personality from the other sages so far, and what I mean is they don’t write them in as self entitled pricks who treat the MC like trash (at least we don’t know yet). They could have gone that route to try to make the mc as pitiful as possible but they went this route instead which I think hits a bit harder since its not them bringing him down but himself.
They have a decent setup here with this so long as they write it out well. That’s harder to find than you’d expect in this genre though.

I think he’s better than the others, as he was born with the worst possible talent for magic, but his hard work enabled him to reach the tallest hights.

I mean, if he didn’t have that inferiority complex and the overwhelming will to achieve the peak even after reaching to such heights, he could have lived a happy and healthy life. He wasted his entire life to search for power. Was it worth it?
Luckily for him, he’ll get reincarnated and all but I truly feel pity for him.
I would say he was done waaaay more than others coz they all had talent and thus had it relatively easier. But he has no talent. It was his sheer will and hard work which made him achieve the highest rank of emperor. I think he should have taken pride in that.
Anyway, it’s just how I feel. I’m sure he’ll get reincarnated and become OP as fuck. So, I guess God of that world got impressed from his hard work and gave him a second chance.
