Summary
A brief description of the manga Betrayed Thief, the Phantom Thief as a Demon King Goes for World Domination:
The thief Keith, whose family was captured, was forced to join the Demon King subjugation party. Thanks to his efforts, they managed to defeat the Demon King, but the king and heroes, who did not think highly of Keith, betrayed him and attempted to kill him.
Barely escaping with his life, Keith found sinister horns growing from his head and transformed into the Phantom Thief Demon King, an embodiment of destruction and violence who can steal others’ skills and statuses!
Along with the former Demon King’s subordinates, the Four Heavenly Kings, and monsters under his command, he exacts vengeance on the humans who betrayed him!
This title is gave me a stroke 😒. I can just tell from the title alone that it isn’t even a good story even if the mc is another op aura farmer.
It’s boring. The art is good, but the MC is too powerful. There’s no tension. Any actual threats to him would have to be tediously contrived.

While i truly like the art and character design the story can be spit on and it’d become better I feel like the betrayed by XXX is slowly starting to grow to a size of isekai but it’s much worse imo i’ve read some garbage that i enjoyed since i could turn my brain off and relax but da*n this story is sh*t
its ok
started cliche but chapter 5 (latest at this writing) and its actually good.
nice art style, beginning isn’t something new but it’s getting interesting
Another completely cliche “I vas betrayed by [insert group]”. Completely uninspiring and unidimensional characters who are 4ssholes for the sake of being 4ssholes. Overlord-eske devoted fanatics of the MC who only exist to be faithful to MC and fill that part of the power fantasy.
MC becomes OP a second after being betrayed. Oh and the member of the party that I saw for one second and thought “this is the simp girl from the original group that was always on MC’s side” was just as I predicted she would be.
I can already see the rest of the story without having to read any other chapter.
From the cover alone seems like a garbage. The first chapter confirmed this is garbage.

For whatever reason I enjoy revenge stories. So these betrayed by the hero stories, I’ll usually check out. The problem is the majority of them suck. Most of the time the person who was betrayed ends up surrounded by new girls who fawn over him and his new powers. And once he’s in a position to get his revenge, he usually just forgives them because he’s just such a good guy, to the point where he just feels spineless. That’s probably like 70% of these stories.
This one doesn’t go down that route since MC does want revenge, which is nice. He gets it fairly quick too. But it doesn’t really feel satisfying. He’s wayyy too OP now; not only does he defeat them with ease, but he also steals all their abilities and skills, making them as strong as a lvl 1 commoner. Except for Mary, who was the only person that acknowledged his efforts in the party and was there for him. But instead of talking to her or explaining anything to her (despite telling her earlier in the story he would explain everything later on), he just walks away thinking, “This is for the best so that Mary can now live a carefree, happy life.” She’s clearly distraught, confused, and upset, but he’s got to act like a stoic cringe lord, acting like it’s some noble good deed for her. That’s when I checked out. Though the artwork is really really good, the manga artist is a beast.
The story would probably be better if the hero became the demon king instead, with the mage girl joining him. Axe Bro could be a wild card. Have Thief go through a training arc to become the phantom thief like he is as the demon king. Then he and Mary would probably recruit 2 new members (1 guy, 1 girl, tired of all girls around 1 MC). Now the thief can not only get his revenge but also now take down the new Demon King.
