The Executioner (Lee Jehwan)

A good 7.5/10. This is just the season 1, it’s essentially impossible to give a good review of a series on the very little things which happen in 1 season.

Main Character – 8/10

• Originally driven by revenge, he grows from that. Has meaningful changes, his on motivations, growth and while direct he also shows examples of complex and conflicting reactions.

Villains – 7/10

• The aren’t one dimensional, they have their backstories, complex motivations (not always some are just crazy) and maybe even justifications. They have the ability to use their brains and don’t just simply make decisions based on “I’m villain therefore I have to kill” or some sort of other bullshido reasons like that.

Side Characters – 7.5/10

• There’s a lot of varying opinions, annoying to some and some agree. I honestly think it’s very accurate to what the actual world is like. Many grow

World Building – 5/10

• There isn’t much to say about it honestly, there isn’t really much going on so I can’t really rate it. That in itself can be a reason to rate low since it’s definitely something that can interest you. The power system is decided and there’s clear distinctions of the sides that are good and are not. The world however doesn’t feel alive, it almost seems like there’s nothing left in the world except the main character, the side characters the government / hero association and the villains
• The world in itself doesn’t delve much into the actual places but it makes it’s identity clear through what it’s showing.

Emotion – 8/10

• I think it can emotionally resonate with many people, especially some of the characters. Their revenge, the reasons for their actions, why and how they’ve become who they are and what has caused all of it in the end.

Art – 10/10

• Well drawn, good proportions. It has it’s own really refined style and isn’t deriving or changing. It’s clean and that’s what’s good about it.

Pacing – 8/10

• Since the story has yet to end I can only grade it based on the first season. And honestly it’s towards the slightly faster side, while some prefer slower, or faster paced stories. It’s moving towards it’s goal straight forwardly and doing so at a realistic pace especially considering the fact that the story has abilities which could easily make the pacing of the story infinitely faster to the point where it could end in a few chapters with bullshit reasons given.

Plot – 7/10

• The plot is interesting and leaves desire to know more, but it’s also simplistic. You want to understand how something will happen but you know the main goal is what the MC want’s from the very beginning and you simply want to know how others will affect that. Not much more to say since this is simply season one. Could go to shit, could be better.

Text / Translation – 9/10

• I have personally not had any issues with the translation and the wording, it mixes current slang and normal vocabulary pretty accurately. However as I’ve been accustomed to many poorly translated series, it could simply be that my brain simply ignored the mistakes and automatically corrected them in term seeming correct to me unless I actually took the time to primarily focus on the text.

Creativity – 6/10

• Many of it’s sections are simply uninspired. Hero vs villain. Post apocalyptic world caused by humans greed. However, the execution of it is done well showcasing the difference in opinions, the complex issues created and how responsibility is taken. Even though the base is Hero vs Villain, it isn’t something MHA inspired, where all heroes are essentially good unless forced to do something bad or all villains aren’t bad because of what happened to them.
