Summary

A brief description of the manga Heavenly Demon Cultivation Simulation:

A group of scouts have been assigned to the area of the Mount Hua Sect by their great leader, ‘The Mantis.’ The protagonist ‘Seol Hwi’ faces the Hua Sect Master ‘Goo Jong Myung,’ and falls in mortal danger.

A status windows then pops up and made him return to the time before he accepted the scouting mission. Once he receives the same scouting mission that left him dead, Seol Hui struggles to change the unavoidable reality.

A status window that appears every crisis. Choices with uncertain future. The story of Seol Hwi as he tries to find the best decision in his world mingled with life and death.

Plot 8.1/10 (its fine)
Uniqueness 7.5/10 (Average Simulation experience but with a twist)
Onion Cutting Ninja, bros not nice in this one
Character Development 9.5/10
Plot Development 8.5/10 (could have been done better but its acceptable)

Romance, More disappoint then waking up

Fit tags? Where is comedy tag? and adventure also fits this criteria tbh psychological could also be like a sub tag tbh

Revenge plot, Yeah, however its more of a subplot and it has yet to achieve its goal

Translation, Went from good to meh to pretty bad and then back to meh

Annoying Characters, the MC can be not everyone’s cup of tea

I usually dislike ‘infinite regression’ type stories like this that make most of the events and gained amicable relationships null and void but this trope really suits the story and adds to its theme of hopelessness. Another thing is its system, as it isn’t so much of a cheat as in other system martial arts worlds, sometimes placing the main character in precarious situations. 8/10

Heavenly Demon Cultivation Simulation has a special place in my heart because it fulfilled my wish of having a side-character-like mc progressing via death. I’ve always thought of regression via death as an interesting concept but there are rarely ones that I have seen done well. It’s even rarer for it to take place in the murim world, but this manwha fulfilled all my dirty desires. The mc is by no means strong compared to others and gets pummeled easily which is very frustrating. But, it’s not the bad kind of frustrating but the kind with empathy to see the mc get as strong as possible. Speaking of the mc’s growth in power, it is done well considering the fact that I have never once considered the mc to be too overwhelming. Though the mc gets “saved” through plot armor, none of it seems unreasonable and overbearing. There is also nothing to complain about side characters, world building, and art either. The manwha may seem to be a solo oriented story but as the chapters go by, I get ever so more interested in the side characters. Definitely one of my favorite reads, but you need patience to give it time to develop.

PS: Very action heavy and not a lot of censoring from my memory. This is also a review on a story I have continuously read, so my memory + feelings are not nearly as well reflected on ones I have read in one session. Feel free to correct me if I misremember anything.

I like this one a lot. Art is great and the plot is engaging. If you don’t like murim struggle manhwas then this is not for you. MC isn’t OP and has to steal, fight, and connive for every inch of progress. He has to be strategic and pick his battles because he’s nowhere near the top of the food chain. 9/10 for me.
