Peerless Dad

Completed webtoon. Finished reading last night. I remember checking this series out however many years ago when it was only on 15 or 30 chapters. It was pretty decent then, but didn’t really catch my attention.

Now coming back and finishing it, here are my thoughts:

It’s definitely not a quick one. It’s very much focused on the different characters and each of their journeys in a much more personal way. The jianghu in this one is fairly normal, pretty typical with a dash of “ancient arts” mixed in, then it goes really Last Airbender/DBZ at the end. It’s also somehow connected to the Red Storm universe.

I think the author’s main focus is to try to show the human relationship side of many of the characters, but because of the detail into their lives, and their views, it does get bogged down with a lot of exposition in their discussions.

The action is good, reminded me of the action from Red Storm, Heavenly Demon Reborn, and Way of Heaven. Very striking, very big, a bit mystical, not necessarily believable, much more classic early 00s manga style like early Naruto.

The story itself is fun enough to continue, although there is a lot of meandering. It feels a lot more “event” of the week rather than focusing on 1 specific goal, but the events get grander and grander and the final arc is about the MC’s past.

Overall a meaningful story imho. If you’re looking for a completed murim story with a lot of respect towards classic murim lore, and the trope of “powerful mc who underestimates himself” focusing on families in the murim, then this might be for you.

I think the popular ranking might be like a 4.2-4.7/5 but for me I think like a 3.8? Still passing, still good, but maybe not exactly my cup of tea.
