The Scholar’s Reincarnation

Solid 7/10- weak 8/10.

Most likely going to be an unpopular opinion but the weakest part of this Manhwa is the art/fighting scene. It’s a 5/10.The fights are for the best part of the early 100 chapters Ki-manipulation and are ended within 10-20 pannels.

The story is also original while being very Isekai/Murim reincarnation type where young kid gets his previous level as a teen and but the time he’s a young adult, he’s transcended the previous life level by a lot.

A nice aspect of Murim is the training and the training arc is always something to look forward too. The hunt for internal ki growth with mystical beast heart or 1000 years old root of a impossible to reach plants. Here.. We just kind of skip it and jump into the OP character that assert absolute dominance

By end of season 1 he’s Kind of reached the top 10 Martial artist in the World with ease that is – again – lukewarm at best.

Another aspect I’m personally not used as most of my manhwa murim read as been very mahnua oriented with terminology, here I’m kind of feeling at lost with the levels and nomenclature. It takes a little while to get use to it.

The pros are that the story is good, the genre approach of a more philosophical and smart MC with extreme talent is very interesting. A mini spoiler is that a lot of people knows he’s the reincarnation of the Martial God of War and that makes this read unique as this is normally – I would say – taboo in that genre. Like it makes sense saying to so many people that you’re the reincarnation of that guy that died 20 years ago is kind of a unique choice by the author.

*As of writing this I’m at chapter 120, just after the end of Season 2 part 1 and started Season 2 part 2. It’s more Flash back of the MC antagonist who we kind of don’t know exactly the motive, but in Murim, there’s not 100 options for the motives. So it’s another aspect of this story I find good; there’s still some hidden motive from both MC protagonist and rival (not to call them antagonist since it’s complex).
