What Do You Wish For With Those Murky Eyes

After reading the avaliable chapters here’s my review, honestly I would of prefered to review this after 40 chapters but unfortunately this Manga drops about as much as michael reeves. A bit of spoilers ahead and some references to some novel spoilers as well.

For starters the atmosphere was well done despite the art not being the greatest multiple panels of the main characters’ down time as well as the the bleak situation in the world surrounding makes for wonderful indirect world building. The characters are fairly well done as well all interacting and have unique perks and traits to them

The theme is also interesting following the brutality of war and the morality to death in war with a little bit of class division sprinkled in. The main character’s power is fitting for the atmosphere albeit at the detriment to the fighting system. This qualifies it to being a high tier Manga however what elevates it is the way the story gives perspective on the antagonists and the art of each of their eyes.

However there are also some problems, I named 1 previously with how the fighting system isn’t great and that’s due to the lack of any clarity. Using hxh for reference we know how every fighter has a unique power to fight with and how that determines their style, this Manga’s fights often feels cheapened since not only is a seemingly not-well trained fighter surviving impossible blows but the fire magic seems exactly how strong it needs to be at any given moment.

Secondly while the characters have traits they lack values and aspirations, this causes their eventual death to feel less impactful since it felt like none of them wanted to do anything anyways. And while some of the did have some hints to their core values the sheer amount of them makes it hard to develop any before their chap 20 send off.

Lastly the acceleration to the story is simply too fast and I find natural progression hard from this position not only js all the chatacter building of all the side chatacters gone but the speed in which it happened with the plan of enemy attack>formation>fight>loss>crash out seemed very unlike the attacks of the mcs sieges. All and all a great read and very recommended by me strong 7/10
