This manwha is sooo underrated
Plot:
The long-standing war between the Kingdom and the Northern Alliance was decided by the heroic immortal Sun Knight.

Since no one knows what the Sun Knight looks like or where he lives, Erkin takes on the task of treating cursed nobles from the kingdom in order to gather information. HE WAS BLINDED BY THE SUN BECAUSE HE LOOKED STRAIGHT AT THE SUN…..
THIS IS WHY YOU DON’T LOOK AT THE SUN FOR TOO LONG
A Humble Review (as of chapter 132):
Should you read this?
YES YES YES. NO IS NOT AN OPTION!! (even if romance isn’t your thing, this story is f***ing unbelievably good)
For starters, and in complete honesty. I don’t think I have read a manhwa, manga, or manhua This captivating and refreshing, ever.
Some of the reviews previous unfairly slander the story without giving it the chance to prove itself. Which it does amazingly.
The characters you thought were bland or obvious at the start of the series become more layered (like onions) as the story progresses, each of the main characters are written superbly with their own unique backstories, that are neither shallow or cliche.
I have read thousands of manwha, manga, manhua, and normal book series. And this sits right at the top of my list.
No other webcomic story has brought out as much emotion in me as this one has, when the MC felt lost, so did I, when he was happy, the emotions fall out of your screen, encompassing. When the story was uneasy, it really felt like there wasn’t any obvious way out. Not many stories can pull it off, yet this does so brilliantly.
Not solo levelling, not Naruto (both original and shippuden), nor Percy Jackson, not even Harry Potter reach the level of this story.
I could compare it to LoTR for its world building and deep character development, I could compare it to The Little Prince for the emotions it made me feel.
This story sets a new gold standard for what a romance / fantasy story should be.
I stopped on chapter 23 because i cannot handle how this is just a story about some dude being forced to work for a country that genocided his homeland and has to deal with all levels of racism the whole time, and even the love interest is just some empathy-less soldier dickhead, and the writers are trying so hard to make the characters relatable while still having it be a cast of what amounts to 20 different Richard Nixons and one black dude (and the girl but she’s cool)
I NEED MORE MORE I SAY MORE
Nodame is great. A bit disappointed with the ending. But a big recommend. It’s one where you don’t feel completely shitty for being single when watching it.
god im so lonley
she can burn me with the heat of the sun any day
FMC ? i know it’s shoujo, but i see man in chap 1
This is such a hassle to read if you read by chapter release, half of the manga is just backstory. Its gotten really boring with just backstory, wait for alot of chapters to be released before reading. Its really a shame, it was quite enjoyable when you weren’t spammed with backstory for chapters on end. 3.5/5
Dont pass this up because of people complaining about backstory. There’s more than 60+ chapters of the story in the present with 30 or so chapters of backstory towards the later chapters.
Of course people are on the edge of their seats and yearning for more which reveals itself in fits of anger and impatience, as seen below my comment….. Whats happening right before the backstories is something that we all want to see resolved so it would piss anyone off. But thats ONLY a testament to how beautifully well written and substantial this story actually is…..If it was a bad story, they wouldn’t be so furious about returning to the present in this story. Isnt that revealing enough?
Its absolutely one of the most mature, introspective, fleshed out, comprehensive and well written Manhwas I’ve ever read…and I’ve read many Shoujo, Shounen/Seinen.
A story about how War affects all sides. How death begets death begets more death… and how resentments beget later resentments…………..
Every side of a conflict considers their enemy to be monsters. But are they really? And what led them to that extreme? This story plunges the reader into the inner conflict of interesting and well rounded characters on both sides of the long-standing war; who’ve all lost something along the way…………….
Can they be forgiven? Can they find peace? Will the cycle of death and war and suffering continue and for how long?
And can a Love manifest between two people who’ve lived and warred on two opposing sides of such a long standing conflict?
That’s only the tip of the iceberg.
Its an authentic and substantial story, unlike most superficial stories today about tower of babels, becoming a god through gaming powers and isekai redo shoujo romances.
Those who are holding off to wait until the backstories end, read ‘Reminiscent Adonis’. Its similar in some ways and also one of the most well written Shoujo Manhwas as well…….. Although it shares many of the usual tropes that “redo shoujo romances” tend to have, unlike the complete authenticity of “Blinding of the Setting Sun”….Its tough to come across a Manhwa that is as introspective and comprehensive as these two (Blinding Sun and Reminiscent Adonis) but they’re certainly out there. Although they’re few and far between.
Around Chapter 50 it goes through 2 or 3 characters backstories. The FMC being the longest one by far but her story is absolutely needed to understand her and the story in general.
While i agree its a bit too much, i dont believe it takes away from such a fleshed out and authentic story as this.
So yes, it drags a bit much and even at 90+ the FMC and MC are still working on the “Shoujo Shuffle” (my coined term for the fmc and mc going back and forth in a subtle love dance until finally they come together as lovers. Hence, the “Shoujo Shuffle” !!! Lolol)
But anyways, its not worth dropping or missing out on this one.
I consider everyone’s impatience as a clear cut example and reaction to expecting so much from this story, because its so well done. Honestly it seems like a compliment. They’re all yearning so much for the story to continue its former pace in the present.
Dont miss out on this. And check out Reminiscent Adonis as i suggested before if you appreciate this one.
Hope this sheds some insight and a different perspective as to why so many people are being ao critical and impatient with this gem.
Half the story is literally just backstory… :cross:
