Summary
A brief description of the manhwa Becoming the Swordmaster Rank Young Lord of the Sichuan Tang Family:
The Sichuan Tang Family, formerly a distinguished line of poison and secret weapons, is currently in decline. Born there, Tang Yeon-Myeong develops an intense obsession with swordsmanship, bringing back memories of his previous existence, in which he achieved the highest level of swordsmanship.
“In this life, I want to live quietly.”
My swordsmanship skills must be hidden if I are to live in peace. But there are just too many things standing in my way.

The overall score with exempting a few things is ∞/10.
But for the villains, –∞/10
They introduced the supposed big villain, dragon. Yet he isn’t even worth calling as 3rd rate villain. A person with fragile mentally, causing destruction just because of their unstable hormone or heart is lame beyond word and pathetic beyond word. No word can represent enough how cringe this type of villain is.
And the next big villain has the same vibe, tho not revealed completely, I hope I’m wrong. I will apologize if I’m wrong. But if the next all villain is the same as this type, then the final score for this comic is ∞-∞/10 or 0/10. What a wasted time. Started with huge potential yet they introduced things that don’t belong to the genre.
So, yep. 0/10.
Once he defeats the dragon guy it goes downhill
The extreme expressions are kind of annoying. These people are masters of death and warfare, yet react like first time witnesses to pain, suffering, betrayal. This is murim, right? Have they not been living in this condition their whole lives, is it not normal to see and experience these tragedies every single day?. Its exhausting and triggering because I’m a completions and really want to get absorbed into this manga since the art is so good. Currently on chapter 24 and my resolve is shaking. Don’t save me if I falter brothers
Very good read, MC doesn’t hide, doesn’t afraid, he will show no mercy to enemy, I personally like his before reincarnation build more, 10/10
very good and worth reading this. The MC becomes op very soon and he isnt afraid to kill the trash around him. Also, the art and the progression is good. 10/10(ch50)
Dude this one is super duper good. Read up to chapter 50. MC is a bad*ss who’s super OP and doesn’t hesitate to kill the ppl who tried to harm him first, which is weirdly rare in these types of stories???
5/5 for me…
I read to the current chapter (chapter 49)
Just a heads up that chapters 8-10 have horrible translations but just skim through it.
I like this one. It’s not the best martial arts story I’ve read but it has a lot of good qualities. I like how the MC is fairly level headed and his powers and knowledge come from him remembering his past life… It’s similar to other stories but I haven’t seen it done before. There’s no identity crisis, the MC is %100 himself. There’s also some pretty good character progression, especially around chapter 40ish.
The art is top notch.
My main complaint with this one is that the MC is op. The moment the MC gets his “enlightenment” he becomes the undoubtedly strongest person in his clan instantly. He does not struggle with fights, all the fights are basically prolonged by showing off and flashy moves (fight look epic though). There is only 1 fight so far where the MC had to really try but there’s kind of an exception to it. MC could probably kill a god.
A secondary complaint is that there’s not really a grand plot. There is one but it’s very basic. Basically, it’s… Become leader, fix clan, beat other factions. There’s no complexity. The MC has to do this 5 year test to become leader but it’s not important because MC was strong enough to beat the test day 1.
OVERALL: I give this a 7/10. Great art and action, mediocre plot, very op mc
Anyone know the name of the novel?
2/10 just cause first… 40 or so chapters. After this it went down the drain with story.
10/10 you can’t make me hate it. Crazy power progression.0 mercy what so ever, but has his morals. side characters are also good. very small plot holes that mc can fix but doesnt with his op powers. Mc sucks at clearing misunderstandings which causes more unneeded conflict
If you plan on reading this DONT not because it’s bad but latest chapter ended on a cliffhanger I would suggest wait until there is atleast 60 chapters this is peak
Review of Becoming the Swordmaster Rank Young Lord of the Sichuan Tang Family
The story is definitely engaging. Tang Yeon-myeong’s journey from a family that used to be famous for poison and hidden weapons to becoming a swordmaster is unique and fun to follow. The reincarnation twist adds a nice layer, especially since Tang just wants a peaceful life but keeps getting caught up in all sorts of trouble. The pacing is generally good, though there are moments where it slows down a bit, but overall, it keeps you hooked.
The art is absolutely amazing. From the detailed fight scenes to the characters’ emotions, everything is done beautifully. The sword fights are fast, fluid, and exciting, with a lot of attention to detail. Even the backgrounds help set the historical tone and make the world feel immersive. Visually, this manhwa is top-tier.
Character development is solid, especially for Tang. His past-life memories make him more than just a typical overpowered hero, adding depth to his personality. Some of the side characters could use more attention, though, as they feel a bit underdeveloped compared to Tang. Hopefully, they’ll get more fleshed out as the story continues.😌
If you’re into martial arts action, this series really delivers. The sword fights are intense, strategic, and drawn in a way that makes them feel dynamic. It’s not just about brute strength, but also about Tang’s skill and intelligence in battle, which makes the action even more enjoyable.
Overall, I’d give Becoming the Swordmaster Rank Young Lord of the Sichuan Tang Family a solid 4.7 out of 5. The story is intriguing, the art is gorgeous, and the action scenes are thrilling. Some side characters could use more development, but it’s definitely worth following if you’re into martial arts and historical fantasy.
Idk about this one, but max level newbie is one of the worst trash I’ve ever read …
This should be named “Reincarnation of the Plot Armor God” or something. This is a good title if you want your mc overpowered and you don’t care about story at all.
I personally hate it. The style is very cool, although they could lessen the exaggeration of everyone’s faces, it’s annoying.(every evil guy is rabid)
Mc doesn’t struggle at all, all the treasures are found in his clan, so he gets boosted immediately and he doesn’t even need pills! He can just drink poison(wow lucky). He just goes around and smashes everything, but… But he really is a bastard, who does a lot of unnecessary killing, meanwhile spouting bullshit about his family and how evil guys are killing others. His audacity and arrogance are boundless, although, what else could you expect from a muscle-head of a guy who spent all his previous life swinging sword?
Mc, in my eyes, doesn’t deserve all of this. He’s not a good guy, everything he did in his past life was training, training, no good deeds and his only desire was to live an ordinary life… With all the benefits of training, of course! So what, does that mean he deserves to be reincarnated? Not really. Firstly it was nice, though, watching MC get revenge and everything. But then, the bullshit came piling up. The mc is handsome, the mc somehow gained all his powers and he didn’t even need to train very hard for this, mc’s mom turned out to be strong(then, mc fed her an elixir and she became even stronger wow), although all this time this timid bi* was sitting quietly, watching as her son was getting beaten up. The revolt is very easy, since MC is op and no one can struggle against him at all.
Firstly, I thought MC was going to be a good guy and I let all his luck slide.
But after he just watched the innocent little girl die at the hands of the crazy lady, intervened only after she suffered fatal injuries(although could have easily prevented it), and then went after the evil guy who was grieving over the loss of his brothers and this little girl, dragging the crazy lady along and was like “this was not me, this was her, so you can’t touch our clan!”, I honestly lost it. The mc then proceeded to struggle against the villain, who was supposed to be strong, was even revealed to be a DRAGON and was winning, and even countered mc’s revelation, but then ultimately was defeated by the mc although the mc was battered and his sword was damaged while the evil guy didn’t show any signs of being tired or anything because “I wOn’t LEt YoU HuRt My FaMiY”. I dropped it, not going to return again, I hate it so much that I’m even writing all this shit.
Another thing that annoyed me – the little romance line, although gooners will disagree.
The mc’s love interest – love from the first side. He met her, poked her tits while saving her from lethal condition, and moments later was already imagining having grandchildren with her.
And yes, yes, I’m seriously butthurt. I hoped MC would lose to the dragon guy and gain a revelation that he shouldn’t have been this arrogant, or that his family would be hurt, at least, and he suffers. But no, no. The MC is a blergh of a person, no wonder, though, since he comes from the Tang clan.
All in all, it would be 6/10 because I don’t want to be too biased, but I wouldn’t recommend reading it if you’re not an edgelord.
