Infinite Level Up in Murim

the theme of the main premise is all but gone now, there’s so little of what made this a solid read left that its become a parody of itself. I’ve said this when the story was around chapter 150ish but its getting really problematic now. The MC simply doesn’t make sense in context of what the story is trying to portray him as. The skills hes getting are not only absurdly powerful but also uninteresting to read, there’s barely any conditional power ups and he’s borderline stat checking everyone he comes across.

The peak of this read was unironically the jade mountain lead up where the MC duck walked all the way there. It was showing us how futile the effort seemed seeing as you needed to assume a ridiculous position to use the power and how absurdly difficult and brutal it would be to get one. Now he just has fking nirvana, asura BS that just makes me go “isn’t this guy supposed to be the underdog???”

It was always interesting going into a fight assuming the lower position, its almost like being in a sekiro and having to fight isshin. Now he has a fking time reversal device, no chance of real failure and no real stakes at all. The characters introduced are mostly flat and the “rival” he’s had is but a shell of the introduction, again wasn’t the entire point that if they worked the same amount of effort that the MC would lose?

And yes I understand that hard work stacks upon itself meaning that because the MC worked hard for longer that he would have an advantage in this regard but once again that isn’t the theme or how the plot was going in the story.

Lastly this story completely forgot about what makes trying hard so difficult, its not just that putting in effort is hard but that results are never guaranteed, we are tested the most in front of failure and how we recover builds character. Why bother making an MC about hard work and perseverance when he doesn’t fail past the 20 chapter point.
